Back in ’92, I offered to help out the Jewish Community Center in St. Paul.
My daughter was in the Pee Wee basketball program and I coached her team.
And when it came time to put together a slide show for the awards banquet I agreed to offer my assistance.
Now, 20 years later, the ball is in my lap (so to speak).
I set up four Alien Bees, triggered with Flash Wizards and shoot the five hours of basketball on Sunday afternoon. I edit the 508 images down to 100 and put together a slide show with Final Cut Pro.
Generally there’s one or two kids per team who hog the ball, so it’s tough to get an equal number of shots of all the kids.
I’ve photographed one child who went on to play ball at Cretin Derham Hall and I later took shots of him playing at Hamline University. Now he coaches a pee wee team.
